Psychic Lemon describe their sound as a blend of space rock, psych and krautrock.
The band rehearse and record in a small home-built studio in the back of a small garden, five minutes down the road from Syd Barrett’s old place. It was built by bassist Andy Hibberd using mostly wooden pallets and cheap duvets. The band’s influences are broad, but choice artists include Hawkwind, Goat and Amon Düül II.
Just one month after the release of their first album, Psychic Lemon were condensed from a four-piece band down to three. The band’s reaction to this has been to create more texture, incorporating layers of drones, percussion and extensive guitar effects, and to let songs evolve naturally from extended jams. On their new album, Frequency Rhythm Distortion Delay, the music has moved even further from typical song structures, mostly eschewing vocals in favour of a widescreen soundscape of guitar effects, distorted bass and drums.
